Step 1: Apply a skip-trowel coat of Tequila Sunrise Lusterstone overall. Not that there are slight fluctuations in the thickness of the material. Change the direction of your hand and the pressure on the trowel as you work to achieve a random, organic finish. Let dry.

Step 2: Double-load a trowel with small amounts of two different colors of Lusterstone a the same time: Terra Cotta and Lady Slipper Pink. Again, change the direction of your hand and pressure on your trowel as you work to blend the colors and set up some very subtle texture.

Step 3: Create a custom color by mixing 1 part Medallion Gold and 2 parts Tequila Sunrise. Add 20% Aquacreme to the mix to create more translucency and “extend” the open time. Hard trowel this over the entire surface. Using a harder pressure on the trowel will compress the material and bring up a higher sheen.

Step 4: Add about 10% Aquacreme to three separate colors: Bordeaux, Tequila Sunrise and Medallion Gold. Float these colors very thinly over the surface, one right after the other, working to finish in small areas before moving on. Let all layers of Lusterstone dry overnight.

Step 5: Create a random arrangement on the flower and leaf shapes on the wall. These can be placed as close together or as far apart as you like, but try to create a random placement that is balanced and flows. Offset the shapes that they are not in direct horizontal or vertical lines with each other. Apply additional 2” blue tape around the edges to protect the background. Burnish the design edges.

Step 6: Use a Japan Scraper to apply an thin, even coat of Ebony Frost Lusterstone to all of the flower and leaf shapes. Let dry or force dry with a hairdryer.

Step 7: Apply a second, slightly heavier coat of Ebony Frost Lusterstone to achieve 100%, opaque coverage. Let dry thoroughly. Leave these Modello masks in place as you proceed to the next step.

Step 8: The Dogwood floral groupings are placed randomly over the black floral shapes. You can simply burnish the designs and remove the backing paper to hand place each grouping in a pleasing way over the flowers.

Flower Placement Tip: If you just lay the adhesive images lightly on the surface without pressing or burnishing they should be easy to pick up and reposition. Once they are in a place where you want them, burnish hard and remove the transfer tape. The Dogwood floral groupings can be cut into smaller pieces and used to decorate the leaves and to till in additional spaces on the flowers, if necessary.

Step 9: Apply two thin layers of Snowflake White Lusterstone with a skip trowel method (thick and thin with irregular edges). This happens quite naturally if you hold the blade at a shallow angle and pull lightly across the surface. Allow the Lusterstone to dry between coats. When all is dry remove both layers of the Modellos.
